National Health Insurance Enrollment Procedures
Foreign students in Korea may apply directly for health insurance at the Civil Affairs Office (Tel : 062-609-0125) at the Gwangju branch of the National Health Insurance Corporation. Students are asked to submit their certificate of foreign registration (Domestic Residence Report Certificate for Overseas Koreans) issued from the Korean Immigration Office, a document verifying their student status, and a fee amounting to the sum of three months’ advance coverage and retroactive coverage from the date of initial foreign registration (submission of the domestic residence report).
Students who have paid their campus medical insurance premiums and are recognized members of the Student Medical Care Union but have not signed up for the National Health Insurance Plan may not be reimbursed for certain medical expenses.
